In traditional multi-storey construction, the inner and outer walls of a building are structurally connected, limiting the amount of insulation that can be installed between them. This compromises the ability of existing building methods to economically meet future energy demands and legislation.

By removing limits on the type and thickness of insulation, the patented bPod building system solves this problem and meets future EU energy regulations already today.

Outer and inner walls are structurally separated, allowing the high degree of insulation required in energy neutral buildings – either using thick layers of conventional insulation or thinner layers of space age superinsulation like aerogel. Even using such expensive insulation, a bPod low energy building is cheaper to build than a standard insulated building in traditional construction.

Granulated mineral fibre can be used as standard insulation, but the freedom to choose any type of insulation material also allows the use of recycled paper in bPod construction. This is as efficient and durable an insulator as mineral fibre and has been used for building insulation for much longer. As it uses significantly less energy for its manufacture, it helps in further reducing a building’s environmental footprint.

Bpod low energy or energy neutral construction also integrates energy efficient underfloor heating into the building. This can combine with renewable energy sources such as solar panels and heat pumps to achieve a zero net energy consumption.

The latest research shows that the underfloor pipes, which heat the building in winter, can even be used to deliver low energy cooling in summer.

Sealing is a vital part of energy efficiency, and bPods meet or exceed national and EU demands for energy neutral buildings.

Many new building methods achieve energy efficiency through expensive and experimental means. In contrast, bPod uses tried and tested methods in new ways to deliver practical building solutions meeting modern environmental standards at a cost people can afford.
